McCain has suspended his campaign to work on a solution for the nations financial meltdown, and he has threatened to pull out of the first presidential debate scheduled for Friday unless Congress takes action by then.
McCain has been attacked from all sides for doing this, but it isnt as dumb or as desperate as it looks.

I think this is a poor move on the part of the McCain campaign. Neither candidate has been sitting in Congress for months. And I agree with the argument that the president absolutely needs to be able to handle several things at once. This is a press move and I think its backfiring. He appears rash and out of touch with the economic crisis. His place is to prove to the American people that he may be the best person to lead the United States.
i think mccain is a goood guy and means well, i think he loves his country and knows where he wants to make a difference and stands up for what he wants
This is just more ammunition for the democrats about how Mccain and Palin are afraid to ask questions. But this is a bad move for Mccain because Obama will probaly have the upper hand now.
well whoever said there's no such thing as bad press was terribly wrong. In my opinion this just makes McCain look really dumb. The whole meeting he had with the president really didnt mean anything, it was a photo opp and I really just think he's doing this for more attention but its back firing because its making him look kind of ridiculous. And i think now is the time for us to hear what these candidates have to say especially with this crisis at hand. There have been a few times in history where we had big problems going on and the candidates still debated, like in 1980 during the iran hostage crisis, the debates still went on so i just think McCain should debate tonight.
uh... yeah, it was a definite attention seeking move. he saw that obama was taking the lead after the palin not-really-that-awesomeness went down and he started to panic. i mean, it worked. it got him days of attention on the news networks and in the media...but it also makes him look like a shady flake. and yeah, i think everyone knows for a fact i am not a republican at all (although i'll take anything that isn't bush) but i would've been okay with mccain as president. after this fiasco, and if he got into office i would kick and scream and be furious with this country in not making the right decision. i do not want a flake in office. especially one who has held the same date for a televised national debate for OVER A YEAR and then decides 'oh crap i am losing to obama. okay well. i'm gonna go and say i'm fixing the economy.' has anyone thought that it would take longer to update him on the status of everything after being OUT of the decision making process for about a year?
i beleive that the entire situation is just a publicity stunt that is backfiring Instead of achieving the desired effect of looking like a candidate whose willing to do anything for the greater good McCain simply looks as if he is-as becca said-"out of touch"

i dont think it was a good move by McCain. but i don't necessarily think that it was a publicity stunt. i agree with becca about how neither of the candidates have been in congress for months so they don't know whats going on.
I understand how this could be seen as a publicity stunt or a showy move to try to get Sen. McCain back in the spot like and im not doubting that thats a possibility. But on the other hand lets take a step back and look at whats going on here. Our Economy is on the brink of depression, home foreclosures are up and sky rocketing, people are struggling everywhere around the nation and they/we need help desperatly. Sen. John McCains intentions may not have been a publicity stunt at all but a relization of whats happening and seeing the necessity to react now and not wait for someone else to step in. Its true that neither candidate have been in congress for awhile now, but does that mean that when something as big as the CURRENT AMERICAN ECONOMY should be put off for a debate that, yes could potentially aid in the election of the next president and possibly a solution to the crisis at hand. I agree that the debate is highly important but is it more important than the declining economy, that is now?
Kody, I totally understand where you are coming from and that the economy is now. But, these candidates will not be useful in Washington. There is nothing for them to do there. Yet, in a few short months one of these two men will be leading our country and making the decisions that will hopefully fix our economy from the crisis it's in. I believe that he felt that he would appear noble. I don't think he's evil, or completely souless and I hope to god he cares about the economy more than the presidency, but for him, right now, the election and proving that one of the two is more capable than the other is what's important.

no one man can revive the entrie AMERICAN ECONOMY sure congratulations he was making a thoughtful move in trying to implement action fantastic
but the fact of the matter is that he wasnt going to make any changes he should have instead been focusing on presenting himself as a cnadidate that is both willing and CAPABLE of taking on the economy as president
and how can he present himself if he refuses to do so in a presidential debate?

This was nothing more than a publicity stunt in my opinion. McCain wanted to be in the spot light for trying to help the economic crisis. But I think it got him more bad publicity than good publicity.

Becca I also understand what your saying, but at the same time i dont think he would have gone and suspended what could be the most important Political Campaign in awhile, if not eve, for a publicity stunt. It just wouldnt be logical for him to do that. But now there is an article saying that the debate will go on and that McCain has agree to resume his campaign.... see link in last post ^^^^
isnt the point of the election at least partially to take care of our troubled economy? if he gets elected, what is he gonna do? just suspend his presidency and "focus" on it? i think that this might hurt him severly, you cant run from a problem that is gonna surround what you are striving for right now, he is delaying the inevitable. if he wanted to focus on the economy, he would focus on his presidency
P.S. Everyone...McCain is going to go through with the debate because I'm not sure everyone knew. Now its a question of: Was he right to want to postpone/was it a publicity stunt
I think his intensions were in the right place and I do believe it was a publicity stunt and the Democrats really counterattacked his spotline-steal, but I don't see why it's that foolish of thing to do.
I mean it guess it shows that he is trying to help, but why such the disapproval of it? Can someone thoroughly explain why the negativity?
