Gustav hits Cuba

On August 30th, hurricane Gustav hit Isla de la Juventud south of the Cuban mainland, at winds of 140 mph and winds of 212 mph in the western town of Paso Real del San Diego. This hurricane destroyed tens of thousands of homes, 19 people were injured, and no deaths were reported. Do you feel there's a way to be better prepared for these types of events?

Not unless we can better fortify buildings. So for now, just get out, and wait for everything to blow over.

There's only so much you can do to prepare for natural disasters, and I think they've already done what they can. They just have to hope for the best.

detecting the storms earlier would allow more time for the inhabitants to evacuate to safety, so I guess better radar systems would help
