North Korea Rebuilding nuclear plant-(The Nook)

North Korea is considering rebuilding their nuclear plants, because the U.S. still has not removed them from the "Terror List". U.S. officials say they do not yet have verification that it is safe to do so. The U.S. wishes to have unannouced inspections of North Korea plants, but the North Koreans refuse to allow this to happen. Reportedly, China received a 60-page report from the North Koreans outlining their production of enriched plutonium dating back to 1986. They say they produced 40 Kg of plutonium, enough for seven nuclear bombs. Norh Korea agreed to abandon their atomic weapons program in return for energy aid equivalent to one million tons of heavy fuel oil from the United States, China, South Korea, Japan and Russia. What do you think the U.S. should do? Remove them from the "Terror list"? Insist on inspections? Post your opinions.

RE: North Korea Rebuilding nuclear plant

I think that the US should remove them from the list to hopefully gain trust and then inspect them. There has to be a little give and take. North Korea obviously isn't going to let us inspect them right now so we should try and work with them.

i believe north korea is a huge threat to the US but i see how they are refusing us to inspect them. its not like we would let them inspect our nuclear plants. thats so like the united states to think they can do whatever they please. i think we should wait and see what happens for the time being.

i think we need to be much more delicate when dealing with countries with supposed nuclear weapons. instead of demanding we need to be negotiating.

I believe we should keep insisting on a search in North Korea because if they truly believed they should be off of our terror list they would not keep us out and oppose us from searching their territory.

i think the idea of inspections is very good and i also thing NK is being a huge baby about this. i mean, threaten us with the rebuilding of a nuclear power plant? just not very smart.

i believe that the US should remove them from the list but continue to watch the country due to its unstability. Inspections are necessary do to that unstability, and the lack of trust we and other countries have with the leaders of N. Korea. We have had many issues with N. Korea and words arent enough of a protection when it comes to nuclear weapons.

In my opinion it isn't the best thing to leave them on the "terror list", but some kind of inspection would be helpful. Because who knows, North Korea is a country with closed boundaries and they may be planning something against the world, considering their political system...

no matter how appealing it may seem to just say, "i dont care, this is AMERICA, so you're just gonna hav to live with it", i agree with jessmontano, give and take is gonna have to be the name of the game in order to solve this crisis

When NK is considering on rebuilding their nuclear plants posts an absolute threat to America, and inspections seem to be a priority especially after NK refusing to allow any typr of inspection to take place...

I agree with a lot of you. You can't just appease NK, we all now how that worked out with Hitler. If they don't pose a threat, then let the UN in once and a while to prove it. After 3 successful inspections a couple years apart, take them off the list.

I think they should still be on the terror list because you never know what is going to happen.

I think North Korea should not be removed from the Terror list until they agree to allow inpections. In the past the North Koreans have not honored their agreements and we should insist that they prove their good intentions.

North Korea should be removed from the list in order to gain a little trust. However do to the unstability of the country (as kody says) inspections are necessary. Furthermore I dont think its wise to be frivolous with a topic such as Nuclear Weaponry.

I feel like the United States has a "whatever we want" sort of attitude. Inspections are absolutely a good idea. However, negotiations are going to be necessary if we want to keep the peace with an unstable government. Remember the last time we barged into a country looking for nuclear weapons without truly attempting UN negotiations? We turned out dead wrong and got sucked into a war for no truly good reason.

I think we should keep N. Korea on the Terror List. A Democracy should never trust a Communist nation. They are a huge threat to are country. Removing them from the terror list will only make our country more vulnerable.
